This place is all about the views. The scenery from the restaurant is simply breath-taking. The restaurant itself is one of the best on Longbeach. The rooms are particularly good value. The staff are humurous and efficient and there is a very friendly feel about the place. Much effort goes into the gardening. The palm trees, plants and flora create a truly beautiful environment. The resort has a path leading down to a tiny bay which is referred to as "SMALL BEACH" by the signs leading the way. The sandy bay is enclosed by the rocks and steep cliffs of the hill, and lands you directly opposite and only a few metres snorkeling out to Longbeach Shark Point where harmless Black Tip Reef Sharks are spotted daily. You will not regret a stay at this fabulous bungalow resort. Just beware of the Monkeys!

Beautiful bamboo bungalows, on a tiny secluded beach!
Continuing past the Maphrao Resort up and over the hill is a new outfit that has fixed up some old bungalows and is adding new ones. It's run by a Thai family that have done an absolutely fantastic job of fixing the place up. Despite the name, the decorative theme here is not so much Viking as Tikki -- with huge wooden posts everywhere, carved into colourfully painted totem-like heads. The bungalows are of the standard bamboo thatch variety, but a lot of care has been taken to furnish and decorate the interiors, and they all have great mosquito nets and balconies. Unfortunately, all bathrooms here are shared, and the cheaper units have the lesser views and fewer furnishings, but that notwithstanding, these are hands-down the most beautiful bamboo bungalows on Phi Phi. There's a beautiful bay with a private beach and not-so-many long-tails as elsewhere -- the location is good and quiet at night as well. They have a huge, rather impressive reception area for such a small outfit, with a restaurant on premises serving mostly Thai food, and water-sports equipment is available for rent. This place is an up-and-comer among bungalow outfits along the coast, and they're getting off to a great start. A fantastic place to base your Paradise Diving holiday!

You've seen the movie, now experience the resort. Actually, this place has nothing to do with the movie The Beach and we doubt highly that Leonardo DiCaprio has ever stayed here. What you will find in residence are large tour groups, plodding around in flip-flops, under the supervision of a talkative guide. It was erected post-tsunami, and the energetic, ambitious owner seems determined to put the place on the map. The staff here are well-dressed, courteous and attentive. The on-site restaurant serves international fare designed to comfort the palates of guests wherever they hail from in the world, which seems to attract a lot of patrons staying elsewhere on the beach. Right now they only have 20 units, and they were all full on our visit - but the bungalows look great in the brochure, and they're brand spanking new, so it's a good bet they're worth a try. They plan to build and additional 40 bungalows in the next year. All rooms have air-con and private bath.
