DIVING WITH SHARKS

Common sharks of the Andaman Sea, Thailand

Whale Shark

Spotting the graceful and totally harmless Leopard Shark is almost a daily occurance on dive sites such as Bida Noc situated at The Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park or Shark Point not far from Phuket. These beautiful creatures are usually accompanied by cleaner fish which remove unwanted bacteria from the sharks. Growing up to 2 metres in length, and feeding on crabs and other small crustaceons by night, these fantastic sharks rest by day. Divers will spot them simply sitting flat on the sandy bottom and more often than not the Leopard Shark will appear to be totally unphased by your presence and allow you to watch it until your air runs out!

Just off the beach at The Paradise Resort on Longbeach the sleek and sinister looking but equally harmless Black Tip Reef Sharks can be seen throhugh-out the day without the need for full scuba kit. If you simply grab a snorkel and mask you can swim out from the beach and to the left you will notice a largish rock protuding the surface.

Try to stay quiet and not to splash with your fins on the surface, and if you perservere you are garuanteed several encounters with chunky Black Tip Reef Sharks that grow anything up to 6ft in length!

This particular rock is also a popular dive site, particularly as a place to conduct Night Dives. The thrill of seeing these fantastic creatures at Night can be too much for some, but if you let us we can give you all the training and knowledge necessary to partake in such an experience.
